White flower

Flowers nestled in rocks

Bright yellow flowers

Roses beside grape vine rows
In many places we noticed rose bushes placed at the end of rows of grapes which we assumed was simply a decorative touch.  Later we learned it has a very specific purpose.

If aphids become prevalent they will attack the roses first allowing the farmer time to notice the invasion and protect the grapes.

Cork oak tree Cork oak enlargement

Speaking of booze, this is a cork oak tree, the very place from which corks come.  An enlargement of the cork bark is shown above.

This website is rapidly coming to an end.  I would like to give a BIG "Thank You" to my tripmates whose photos I have used on the preceding pages.

I used what I could of my own photos but borrowed HEAVILY from Carrell, Richard, Truman, Lynne R., and the Rosie/Cindy team (not knowing who was behind the camera at any given moment).

I hope you enjoyed seeing your photos reproduced here (and won't sue me for copyright violations).

Are you ready for part 2??

The trip would continue for Carrell and I, going into Italy and visiting the
five towns in the Cinque Terre region, Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano, Orvieto
and, finally, a quick stop in Florence.  Would you like to see those pictures?

If so, CLICK HERE.
